RAINMEN STORM PAST KEBS BACK HOME
dec20-09-300Sunday’s winter storm outside was matched inside by the Halifax Rainmen who stormed to a 108-90 victory over the visiting Quebec Kebs at the Metro Centre.

The win improves the Rainmen’s pre-season record to 2-0 after back-to-back wins in front of the hometown fans on consecutive nights. The Rainmen defeated Manchester Millrats Friday night, 101-97, in a thrilling late come-from-behind victory.

Unlike Friday’s game against the Millrats, it was the Rainmen who were in control this time. The Rainmen led early and never relinquished the lead they built to 10 points in the first quarter.

Rainmen guard Tony Bennett put on a clinic during the first 15 minutes, racking up 16 points on three 3-pointers, three field goals and a free throw, as the Rainmen led 29-19 after the first quarter.

While the Kebs fought back early in the second to pull within three at one point, the Rainmen took control again dominating late in the half to build up a 16-point margin and lead 54-38 at half-time.

With the game well in hand, the Rainmen eased off a bit in the final quarter, satisfied to trade baskets with the Kebs the rest of the way, as they coasted to an easy win.

Bennett, for the second straight night, led the Rainmen with 28 points while another fan favourite, Eric Crookshanks, added 16 points while grabbing a game high 14 rebounds. Adris DeLeon and Mark McCarroll also chipped in with 18 points a piece, while Jeanty Cordell sparked the Keb scorers with a game high 31 points.

The Rainmen wrap their three-day Holiday Classic pre-season homestand at the Metro Centre tonight at 7 p.m. when they take on rival Vermont Frost Heaves.
